Course Introduction

The Advanced Semantic Layers for AI and Business Analytics Training Course provides an advanced framework for designing semantic layers that create a consistent, trusted, and business-oriented interpretation of enterprise data for analytics and artificial intelligence. The course focuses on transforming technically complex data environments into accessible information models that enable users, analytical applications, AI assistants, and intelligent agents to work with consistent definitions, metrics, relationships, and business context.

Modern enterprises frequently operate across data warehouses, lakehouses, operational databases, cloud platforms, business intelligence systems, SaaS applications, and specialised analytical environments. Although these systems may contain valuable information, differences in schemas, terminology, calculations, ownership, and business definitions can make enterprise-wide analysis difficult. Semantic layers address this challenge by creating a logical business representation that separates business meaning from underlying physical data structures.

Participants will explore advanced semantic modelling techniques covering business concepts, entities, dimensions, measures, metrics, hierarchies, relationships, calculations, policies, metadata, and analytical definitions. They will learn how to create semantic models that support consistent reporting while also providing AI systems with the structured business context needed to interpret enterprise information accurately and appropriately.

The programme examines the convergence of semantic layers with generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation, natural-language-to-SQL, AI-powered analytics, enterprise copilots, and agentic systems. Participants will learn how semantic layers can act as an intermediary between AI applications and complex enterprise data, enabling AI systems to understand business terminology, select appropriate measures, generate structured queries, and provide more contextually grounded analytical responses.

A major emphasis is placed on governance, security, quality, and semantic consistency. Participants will examine metric governance, business glossary integration, data lineage, access control, semantic versioning, model certification, data quality, and change management. The course also addresses challenges such as conflicting definitions, metric proliferation, ambiguous terminology, duplicated semantic models, inappropriate AI-generated queries, and unauthorised access to analytical information.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to design, govern, implement, and optimise advanced semantic layers for enterprise analytics and AI. They will be equipped to establish reusable business-oriented information models that improve analytical consistency, accelerate data discovery, enable natural-language analytics, and provide a reliable semantic foundation for AI-assisted business intelligence and decision support.
