Course Introduction

Procurement and contract management are central pillars in the successful delivery of donor-funded projects, ensuring that resources are acquired transparently, efficiently, and in compliance with strict donor regulations. In an increasingly regulated funding environment, organizations must demonstrate value for money, fairness, and accountability in all procurement processes. This course equips participants with advanced competencies to manage procurement systems that meet international donor standards.

Donor-funded projects require strict adherence to procurement guidelines established by institutions such as USAID, EU, UN agencies, and global foundations. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in audit findings, funding suspension, or reputational damage. This training provides participants with a deep understanding of donor procurement rules and how to apply them effectively in real-world project environments.

Contract management is equally critical, as poorly managed contracts can lead to cost overruns, delays, disputes, and substandard delivery of goods and services. Many organizations struggle with weak contract drafting, monitoring, and enforcement mechanisms. This course strengthens participants’ ability to develop, manage, and close contracts effectively while safeguarding organizational and donor interests.

Modern procurement systems are increasingly complex, involving competitive bidding, supplier evaluation, ethical sourcing, and risk management. Organizations must ensure transparency at every stage of the procurement cycle to prevent fraud and corruption. This training introduces structured procurement frameworks that enhance efficiency, integrity, and compliance across all procurement activities.

Effective procurement and contract management also require strong coordination between finance, program, and supply chain departments. Weak coordination often leads to inefficiencies and non-compliance issues. This course builds cross-functional competencies that ensure procurement decisions are well-integrated with project planning and implementation.

Through practical exercises, case studies, and donor compliance simulations, participants will gain hands-on experience in managing procurement cycles and contracts. The course enhances institutional capacity to deliver donor-funded projects successfully while maintaining transparency, accountability, and operational excellence.
