Course Introduction

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains one of the most pervasive human rights violations globally, affecting women, girls, men, and vulnerable populations across all contexts. This course provides an advanced, practice-oriented understanding of GBV prevention, response systems, and survivor-centered case management approaches.

Participants will explore the structural, social, cultural, and economic drivers of GBV, with a focus on how unequal power relations, discrimination, and harmful norms contribute to violence. The course emphasizes prevention strategies that address root causes rather than only responding to incidents after they occur.

A core focus of the course is survivor-centered case management, including ethical principles, confidentiality, informed consent, referral pathways, and multi-sectoral coordination. Participants will gain practical skills to manage GBV cases safely, effectively, and in accordance with international standards.

The course also examines protection systems within humanitarian, development, and national frameworks, ensuring participants understand how to design and strengthen integrated protection mechanisms. Emphasis is placed on coordination between health, legal, psychosocial, and security services.

Emerging issues such as digital GBV, conflict-related sexual violence, child protection intersections, and displacement-related risks are critically analyzed. These evolving challenges require adaptive and context-specific protection responses, which are thoroughly addressed in this training.

By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to design, implement, and strengthen GBV prevention and response systems that are ethical, survivor-centered, coordinated, and aligned with global protection standards.
