Course Introduction

The transition from a linear “take-make-dispose” economic model to a circular economy requires large-scale financing innovations and investment restructuring. This course provides participants with advanced knowledge on how capital markets, development finance, and private investment can be aligned with circular economy principles.

It explores how financial systems can support resource efficiency, waste reduction, recycling industries, and regenerative production systems. Participants will learn how circular economy models are transforming traditional investment strategies across sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, energy, and urban development.

The course examines financial instruments used to support circular economy transitions, including green bonds, sustainability-linked loans, impact investment funds, and blended finance structures. Emphasis is placed on mobilizing capital for scalable and bankable circular economy projects.

Participants will also gain insights into policy frameworks and regulatory incentives that encourage circular economy investments at national and international levels. This includes extended producer responsibility schemes, carbon pricing integration, and sustainable procurement policies.

A strong focus is placed on risk assessment and investment evaluation methodologies for circular economy ventures. Participants will learn how to assess financial viability while incorporating environmental and social impact indicators into investment decision-making.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to design financing strategies, structure investment portfolios, and support circular economy projects that deliver both financial returns and sustainability outcomes.
