Course Introduction
Addiction and substance use disorders are complex public health challenges affecting individuals, families, and communities worldwide. This Addiction, Substance Use, and Recovery Support Training Course equips participants with knowledge and practical skills to understand, prevent, and support recovery from substance-related disorders.
Substance use can have profound physical, psychological, and social consequences, including disrupted relationships, reduced productivity, and co-occurring mental health conditions. The course emphasizes understanding the biopsychosocial determinants of addiction and the importance of holistic, evidence-based interventions.
Participants will gain insight into the neurobiology of addiction, risk factors, and the progression of substance use disorders. Emphasis is placed on early identification, harm reduction approaches, and recognizing behavioral, emotional, and social indicators of substance misuse.
Practical skills are central to the course, enabling participants to provide empathetic support, facilitate recovery-oriented conversations, and apply motivational strategies. Ethical considerations, confidentiality, and boundaries are emphasized to ensure safe and professional engagement with individuals affected by substance use.
Emerging issues such as polysubstance abuse, prescription medication misuse, digital addiction, and opioid crises are addressed. Participants will also explore strategies for relapse prevention, community-based recovery programs, and integration of mental health and psychosocial support services.
By the end of the training, participants will be able to design and implement recovery support interventions, advocate for substance use prevention, and contribute to building supportive, resilient communities while enhancing their own professional competence in addiction support.
