Course Introduction

Climate-related financial disclosures are rapidly becoming a core requirement for organizations across all sectors as regulators, investors, and stakeholders demand greater transparency on climate risks and environmental impact. This course provides a comprehensive foundation in how climate-related financial information is identified, measured, and reported within modern accounting systems. Participants gain practical insights into integrating climate data into financial reporting frameworks.

As climate change continues to influence financial performance, organizations must assess both physical risks (such as extreme weather events) and transition risks (such as policy changes and market shifts). This course equips participants with the ability to identify, quantify, and disclose these risks in line with global standards such as TCFD and emerging IFRS sustainability disclosure requirements. It bridges the gap between environmental science and financial reporting.

The course also explores how climate-related risks affect asset valuation, capital allocation, and long-term financial planning. Participants learn how to incorporate climate considerations into financial statements, investment analysis, and strategic decision-making. This ensures that organizations are not only compliant but also financially resilient in the face of climate uncertainty.

A key focus is understanding global regulatory frameworks shaping climate disclosures, including Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), ISSB standards, ESG reporting requirements, and regional sustainability regulations. Participants gain clarity on compliance expectations and learn how to align internal reporting systems with international disclosure standards.

The course also introduces tools and methodologies for measuring carbon emissions, climate exposure, and environmental impact in financial terms. Participants explore data collection systems, carbon accounting techniques, scenario analysis, and climate risk modeling. These tools help organizations translate environmental data into actionable financial insights.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to confidently prepare climate-related financial disclosures, integrate climate risk into financial reporting systems, and support strategic decision-making that aligns with sustainability and regulatory expectations. They will be prepared to enhance transparency, accountability, and resilience in a climate-conscious financial environment.
