Introduction
Infrastructure and mega projects involve significant capital investments, long implementation periods, and complex financing arrangements that demand robust accounting and financial management systems. Accurate accounting is essential to ensure transparency, cost control, and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
This course provides a comprehensive understanding of how infrastructure and mega projects are planned, financed, accounted for, and reported within public sector and large institutional settings. It emphasizes the importance of accrual-based accounting in capturing long-term assets, liabilities, and commitments.
Participants will explore how accounting standards such as IPSAS and IFRS apply to infrastructure assets, construction contracts, and long-term capital projects. The course highlights how accounting choices influence project valuation, fiscal sustainability, and financial reporting outcomes.
Special attention is given to managing financial risks associated with mega projects, including cost overruns, delays, contract variations, and financing risks. Participants will learn how accounting systems support early warning, corrective action, and informed decision-making.
Through practical case studies and applied exercises, the training demonstrates how to account for project costs, capital work in progress, borrowing costs, and asset capitalization. Emphasis is placed on audit readiness, documentation, and compliance with reporting requirements.
Designed for professionals overseeing large-scale investments, this course equips participants with the skills to strengthen financial governance, enhance project transparency, and ensure that infrastructure investments deliver sustainable economic and social value.
